The Luc Menora Rehabilitation Foundation (LMF), located in Mile 90, Bamenda, Cameroon, is a place where children with special needs find hope, healing, and empowerment. Founded by Madam Mamukem Gladys Ngopang, the center is devoted to rehabilitating, educating, and equipping vulnerable children with the skills they need for a brighter future.
Yet today, this mission is under serious threat. The foundation is facing an electricity crisis that is dimming the light of opportunity for these children.
🌍 The Challenge of Power Shortages
During a recent visit by the Abakwa Educational and Health Drive (AEHD) team, led by Ngeh Chrysantus (solar energy expert) and Tume Emmanuel (field technician)- it became clear that the foundation’s reliance on the national power provider, ENEO, is no longer sustainable. Frequent blackouts, exacerbated by ongoing insecurity and damaged infrastructure at Mile 90, have left the centre struggling to conduct even its most basic activities.
The impact is heartbreaking:
- Students face constant disruptions in learning and rehearsals.
- Computers and vital rehabilitation machines sit unused.
- Recreational activities that bring joy to the children are cut short.
- Without power, water pumps cannot run, creating shortages.
- Essential appliances, like washing machines, remain idle.
For children who already face unique challenges, these difficulties make daily life even more burdensome.
☀️ A Ray of Hope: Solar Energy
There is a way forward. Solar energy offers a clean, reliable, and sustainable solution that could keep the foundation running smoothly lighting up classrooms, powering rehabilitation equipment, and ensuring the children’s needs are met without interruption. Of course, building such a system comes at a cost. But just as “little drops of water make an ocean,” small acts of kindness and generosity can add up to make a big difference.
💛 How You Can Be Part of the Change
The children of LMF remind us that every child is a gift, and every smile is a victory of hope over hardship. By standing with them, we can ensure that their laughter, learning, and dreams are never silenced by darkness.
Your goodwill—whether through spreading the word, offering ideas, or lending support—can help restore light to this foundation. “Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together, they make this world a beautiful garden.” Let us nurture this garden and keep the light of hope shining for the children of the Luc Menora Rehabilitation Foundation
